Sankofa is an African word from the Akan tribe in Ghana. The literal translation is, “it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.” 

​

Through the Sankofa symbol and with the blessings of our ancestors we are reminded that we must always go back and get what is rightfully ours. May we move unafraid of taking up space. The Sankofa Sisterhood Writers Retreat is a self-care retreat for women writers of color. Unable to attend, learn how you can sponsor a writer.
