Intro to La Regla de Ocha - Letra del Año 2022

La Letra del año: Obatala y Oshanla Welcome to our first class of 2022! Join us as we dig into the predictions, warnings, and guidance that the letter of the year has to offer all of us. This year is ruled by two Orishas: Obatala y Oshanla. The letter of the year is an ancient tradition, established in Cuba since the early nineteenth century. La Letra del Año are predictions for the year. They tell us what we can expect. They warn us of things to be mindful of. This letter serves as a guide for those in the religion about what we can prepare for and the measures we can take to live a more harmonious, abundant and healthy life. These messages are not limited to practitioners, we welcome all who are interested in learning what they can do this year to protect themselves and their homes in 2022. La Letra del Año uses the system of IFA to determine which orishas will govern and what signo (signs) those orisha bring. The letter of the year is divined by elders, babalawos from specific houses and where a council comes together to consult Orula. This is done in community and consists of many hours of ceremony. The babalawos then ask Orula what can be done to align with the energies of this coming year that will help provide stability for humankind.

This is our 1st class for 2022, Lucumi: La Regla de Ocha, The Rules of the Orisha. Please note that IFA / Lucumi y La Regla de Ocha are mysteries for a reason. There are many things that the workshop WILL NOT cover. We will not be sharing what happens in sacred rites and initiations. This workshop is an introduction to the religion—a place where aleyos and practitioners can join for community and spiritual reflection.
