About the Event
The unlived life of a parent
Nothing has a stronger influence psychologically on their environment and especially on their children than the unlived life of the parent. — C. G. JUNG
There is nothing worse than witnessing an unlived life.
That’s not true—there is something far worse, our repeating the narrative we witnessed.
Many of us were not taught to believe in ourselves.
Many of us were not taught to take risks.
What some of us were taught was to do the responsible thing—whatever that means—and pursuing dreams was not responsible.
How could we believe we could ever make our dreams come true when our parents never did?
It has taken me such a long time to understand that the root of so much discord and unhappiness is rooted in the ways we are living or not living our lives. For some of us “doing the right thing” has become so monotanous and unfullfilling.
What are we waiting for to do the thing we were born to do?
“We’ve all heard that the unexamined life is not worth living, but consider too that the unlived life is not worth examining. The success of a creative recovery hinges on our ability to move out of the head and into action.”
Family, I am in recovery—literally, spiritually and creatively. I am finally admitting to myself that I need support. I am finally admitting to myself that I have not been ok. I am finally admitting to myself that this loss I am living through with the transitioning of my brother has effected in more ways than I have cared to admit. And I am finally admitting to myself that the artist in me has been suffering—in many ways I have not been living.
What I know to be true is that if am not writing I am dying and the truth is that when my brother died, the writer in me died with him. But I am not dead. I am still here and I have too much to do and so this is why I knew that I need to return to my artist ways. I am in my AWAKENING!
“Living is a form of not being sure, not knowing what’s next or how. The moment you know how, you begin to die a little. The artist never entirely knows. We guess. We may be wrong, but we take leap after leap in the dark. --Agnes De Mille

This week I took myself out on an artist date. Artist dates are a concept from the teachings found in the Artist Way. Julia Cameron believes we all have an artist inside craving to be born. She invites us to find creative ways to fill our cups and connect to whatever is aching to be birthed inside of us.
So I went on two artist dates this week, a yummy lunch at my favorite French bistro where I had waffles and fruit and then a candle light concert. While I was listening to this beautiful string quartet performing a tribute to Ed Sheeran I found myself getting emotional—the artist in me has returned. The writer is back! Welcome home!
As I continue this journey I am inviting you to join me in THE AWAKENING—12 Weeks Committed to YOUR purpose.
This is a commitment to YOU! Not to me!
If you would like to discover what you came here to do, if you would like some support and encouragement on this journey join me.

This is WEEK ONE and we check in each Saturday morning.
Who can join the 12-Week Journey practicing The Artist Way? This is for dreamers, visionaries, photographers, bloggers, podcasters, filmmakers, painters, sculptors, poets, actors, lawyers, mother’s, father’s, grandparents, elders, housewives—anyone who wants to try anything creative.
The Artist’s Way has been used in hospitals, prisons, universities, human-potential centers, and often among therapists, doctors, AIDS groups, and battered women’s programs, not to mention fine-arts studios, theological programs, and music conservatories.
My hope is that during this 12 week journey together you make profound discoveries about yourself and create something that you never thought possible.
