¡Pájaros, lesbianas y queers, a volar! is a free 6 week bilingual writing workshop that aims to generate writing for an upcoming LGBTQ anthology that depicts the LGBTQ Dominican experience on the island and the diaspora. The workshop is open to participants identified as part of the whole spectrum of gender and sexuality. The Dominican culture is inherently homophobic and through this workshop and consequently the publication, we are daring writers and readers to take flight, be visible, to leave their cages, raise their voices and be free.  The workshop will be framed through the country’s motto: Dios, Patria y Libertad, and how it applies to our community in areas such as gender and sexual expression, homophobia, transphobia, sexual rights, faith, race, identity, human rights and intersectionality. The genres the workshop will cover are poetry, essay, memoir and short fiction.

¡𝗣á𝗷𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘀, 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗯𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘀 𝘆 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗮 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿! Un taller gratuito de escritura bilingüe de 6 semanas que tiene como objetivo generar escritura para una antología LGBTQ que describe la experiencia LGBTQ dominicana en la isla y la diáspora. El taller está abierto a participantes que se autodefinen como parte de todo el espectro LGBTQ de género y sexualidad. La cultura dominicana es intrínsecamente homofóbica y a través de este taller y en consecuencia de la publicación, estamos desafiando a escritores y lectores a tomar vuelo, ser visibles, salir de sus jaulas, alzar la voz y ser libres. El taller estará enmarcado dentro del lema nacional: Dios, Patria y Libertad, y cómo éste se aplica a nuestra comunidad en áreas como género y expresión sexual, homofobia, transfobia, derechos sexuales, fe, raza, identidad, derechos humanos e interseccionalidad. Los géneros literarios que cubrirá el taller son poesía, ensayo, memorias y cuentos.
