40 Days of Embracing Hope and Spiritual Strength

Today is ASH WEDNESDAY!

Today marks the beginning of lent where for 40 days and 40 nights those of us who observe the Lenten season practice various rituals in honor of and in preparation for the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. 

This is forty days fasting of something that feels like a real sacrifice. During lent some of us might sacrifice something we love, something that is hard for us. I am giving up alcohol and all things toxic to my body. 

Why ashes? 

The ashes are burned from the previous years Palm Sunday. Practitioners might attend mass and a priest or officiant marks the sign of the cross on their forehead. 

The ashes symbolize both death and repentance. We are mourning our sins and praying for our rebirth. 

Over the next 40 days we are encouraged to reflect on our faith. I will be hosting a sacred space early in the morning with the intention of praying, meditating and journaling before we begin our day.
